Experience

Working life

  • Until recently Clare was the Director of the Tory Reform Group and Conservative Mainstream.   She now works for former Secretary of State for Health Rt Hon Stephen Dorrell MP.
  • Clare is a consultant to the Leadership Centre for Local Government.
  • Former employment includes working at the House of Commons, editing guides to living and working in the Middle East and working on a number of magazines for the African and Middle Eastern export markets.
  • Her early career included working for the family construction firm in Great Yarmouth and for Jarrolds in Norwich.
  • She is a non-Executive Director of WRAP.

 

Political achievements

  • Clare has been a councillor on Lambeth Council for almost 19 years, holding senior roles including Cabinet Member for Environment, former chair of social services and Mayor.
  • Clare was a candidate in the European Elections for the Eastern region.
  • Clare contributed to David Cameron’s Quality of Life policy group on environmental issues and innovated and chaired a pioneering climate change commission in Lambeth.
  • For the past 10 years she has held positions at national level on Local Government Association boards.
  • Clare has served for many years as a UK representative on the Council of European Municipalities & Regions Women Elected Members Committee.
  • Clare fought the Parliamentary Seat of West Lewisham for the Conservatives in 1997.

 

Voluntary and community work

Clare is a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London. She has been involved in numerous community organisations over the years, including Age Concern, Groundwork and as a school governor and President of the Lambeth 50F Air Training Corps (ATC). Clare has previously served as a magistrate. She has also worked with diverse Christian churches and other faith groups on community cohesion. She helped set up a national charity for people with learning disabilities. She is a Trustee of 4 ALL -Building Community in West Dulwich, an organisation based at All Saints Church, working to promote community in the area.
